Keyword search:

A keyword search of the entire NDAQ database is available from the NDAQ home page. Enter one or more search terms (the words or phrases that best describe what you are looking for) into the search box and select on the ‘Search’ button or enter/return key.

The circular buttons above the search box allow the search to be restricted to one of two catagories: “Qualifications” or “Units”. The search engine then looks for the specified words/phrases for either qualifications or units against the following criteria.

Qualifications Units
Qualification reference number Unit reference number
Qualification title Unit title
Original and revised levels
Awarding body name and acronym
Potential job occupations

The NDAQ database will produce a results page in response to your query.

Here are some tips to help you maximize the effectiveness of your keyword search.

  • Choosing search terms: Choosing the right search terms is key to finding the information you need. Start with the obvious. If searching for information on geography, enter ”geography”. However, it is often advisable to use multiple search terms in order to get a smaller number of more relevant results; in which case, separate each word with a comma. For example, if you are searching for GCSE geography, you will get better results with “GCSE, geography” than with either “GCSE” or “geography” alone. And “GCSE, geography, geologist” may produce even better (or, depending on your perspective, worse) results.
  • Capitalisation: NDAQ searches are not case sensitive. So searches for “GCSE”, “gcse” and “GcSe” will all return the same results.
  • No need to include “and”: By default, NDAQ only returns results that include all of your search terms. There is no need to include “and” between terms. However, the order in which the terms are typed will affect search results.
  • Word variations: NDAQ searches for anything that begins with the words entered in the search box. If you search for “vision”, NDAQ will find “supervision” but won’t find “supervision”.
  • Phrase searches: Sometimes you will only want results that include an exact phrase. In this case, simply put single quotation marks around your search terms. If you only have one phrase, there is no need to include the quotation marks. Phrase searches can be combined with comas. For example, “ ‘advanced mathematics’,’intermediate level’ “.
