Qualification summary

To provide candidates with knowledge and understanding to enable them to be safe, ethical and effective Match Officials in Football. This is achieved through the development of knowledge, understanding and the application of The Laws of Association Football underpinned by competencies and knowledge of appropriate units of the National Occupational Standards.

The qualification enables those with an interest in being a match official in football to gain a qualification which will give access to employment, in the largely voluntary environment that is football refereeing, via the Football Association's County Referee network. The qualification also allows holders to progress within the promotional ladder for football referees, managed by the the Football Association's County Referee network and access to the FA Match Officials Association.

Practical Examination
The qualification includes the internal assessment of candidate’s knowledge of the Laws of Association Football and an observed assessment of their refereeing at least open age (11v11)matches, to the required standard, by an appropriately qualified assessor.

Independent assessment takes the form of an assessment of a portfolio of evidence and oral questions on aspects of the evidence presented, including a Log of the candidate refereeing 20 x open age (11v11) matches. A Self-evaluation report is produced on each match and misconduct reports where applicable.
