Qualification summary

The essential purpose and aim of the Level 2 Certificate in First Aid for Sport is to provide candidates with knowledge and understanding of first aid sufficient to be able to offer appropriate care and manage a range of illnesses and injuries sustained in sport. It offers the opportunity for those involved in sport to provide quality and effective first aid care, achieved through an understanding of the general duties, responsibilities and treatment principles of first aid.

Progression from the FAS could lead candidates to voluntary or paid employment or deployment as a first aider associated with a sports club in a range of sports or national governing bodies of sport.

Progression to other qualifications might be to sports therapy, sports massage or treatment of injury qualifications. These could lead candidates to employment as an assistant to a sports club physiotherapist.

Candidates may choose to progress to the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in the Treatment and Management of Injury in Sport and continue on to the Level 3 Certificate in the Treatment and Management of Injury in Football. Further progression could ultimately lead to The FA Treatment and Management of Injury Diploma.

The independent assessment component is a written assessment paper covering the depth and breath of the knowledge and understanding of both units. In addition to this, a holistic approach to assessment is established via practical internal assessment demonstrations required three times throughout the course to ensure that candidates are fully trained to the required level.
