Qualification summary

The aim of this qualification is to provide candidates with the specific knowledge and skills necessary to enable them to manage injuries sustained in Association Football. This includes:

> an improved understanding of the treatment of football injuries on and off the field of play
> the promotion of therapeutic awareness in the prevention of injury
an opportunity to study the mechanism of injury and pathology of common injuries to the upper and lower limb

> a development of understanding of gross, surface and functional anatomy as a base for the recognition

> the distinction between minor and major injury in order to offer sensible advice, management and be able to treat common basic injuries or to refer the player to a more skilled practitioner at a higher level.

The aims stated above are achieved through an understanding and the application of the underpinning knowledge of the NOS for Sports Therapy in the context of therapy in football.

Holders of the Level 3 Certificate in the Treatment and Management of Injury in Football may wish to seek employment (paid or unpaid) as a football therapist for an amateur or semi-professional football club.

Successful candidates of this qualification may wish to progress to The FA Diploma in the Treatment and Management of Injury in Football awarded by The Football Association.

The independent assessment component is a written assessment paper covering the depth and breath of the knowledge and understanding of all three units. In addition to this, a holistic approach to assessment is established via practical internal assessment demonstrations and related oral questioning required during the course to ensure that candidates are fully trained to the required level.
All units are mandatory.
