Qualification summary
The Level 2 Certificate in Working in the Outdoors (L2CWO) has been developed to provide learners, aged 16 years of age and above, with an introduction to both the practical and theoretical aspects of the principles of working in the outdoors. The L2CWO does not qualify candidates to instruct a particular activity. However, it will enable candidates to acquire a basic understanding of how to plan, organise and deliver outdoor activities. It will also provide an appreciation of the instructing process, safe practice and ethics in outdoor activities as well as an understanding of employment rights and responsibilities, industry and organisational awareness in the outdoors.

Holders of this Certificate may wish to gather further evidence of their instructing of adults and children, towards a Level 2 sport-specific qualification or a Level 2 NVQ in Activity Leadership.

Practical Demonstration / Assignment
There is an independently assessed written task relating to dealing with accidents/illness/emergencies during an outdoor activity session.
There are a number of internally assessed tasks relating to:
Legislation specific to the Outdoor Industry
Your role within the organisation/company
Plan and prepare an outdoor activity session
Deliver, conclude and review an outdoor activity session
Evaluate an outdoor activity session
The qualification consists of three mandatory units.
