Qualification summary

The Level 3 Certificate in Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support (L3TALS) aims to provide the underpinning knowledge and assist in the development of a range of mentoring and guidance skills for individuals who work with talented athletes in the performance sport environment. The qualification will enable candidates to acquire an understanding of how to support and encourage athletes, and how to signpost these athletes to support services appropriate to the talented athlete lifestyle and the challenges it presents. It will also provide the candidate with an appreciation of the performance sport environment, and the ability to identify and manage the key transition points of talented athletes as they progress within their sporting career.

The Certificate enables candidates to gain employment, either paid or voluntary, within the performance sport environment. Holders of this Certificate may also use it as a stepping stone to further qualifications, or to enhance current learning programmes they are already undertaking. Candidates may use the qualification for progression on to a Level 3 S/NVQ in Coaching Teaching and Instruction or a Level 3 or Level 4 S/NVQ within Coaching and Mentoring as the evidence generated meets the NOS in these areas. The Certificate also enhances various higher education courses, should universities opt to include it within their learning programme, and the English Institute of Sport and UK Sport are currently developing a degree programme that this qualification aspires to be an entry route for.

Practical Demonstration / Assignment
The independent assessment component of this qualification is comprised of a written six-month live case study. This case study contributes to the achievement of all five units of the qualification.

The internal assessment component of this qualification is comprised of a range of tasks incorporating written work, role plays, presentations and group discussions. These tasks can be achieved using the standardised assessment tools contained within the 1st4sport Level 3 Cerificate in Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support Candidate Pack
The L3CTALS comprises of 5 mandatory units, totalling a minimum of 60 Guided Learning Hours and an additional 66 Notional Learning Hours (126 hours in total). It is recommended that Units 1 - 4 are completed in succession; Unit 5 may be completed at any time during the candidate's registration period.
