ASET Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care
Qualification summary
This qualification is designed for study by staff working and also those wishing to pursue a career within the health and social sector. It is suitable for example in Domiciliary Care, Residential Care, Foster Care, Child Care, Day Care and Primary Care.
The ASET Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care supports the National Occupational Standards in Health and Social Care at Level 2 and the Common Induction Standards. It delivers generic knowledge, but with the opportunity to customise delivery to make it relevant to the individual learner and his/her employment.
The ASET Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care is approved as a Technical Certificate as part of the Health and Social Care Modern Apprenticeship Framework.
Aims and broad objectives of the qualification
Aims:-
• To deliver units which support the knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social Care National Occupational Standards (Mandatory units) at Level 2
• To support the Induction Standards in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for employees in the Care Sector
• To assist career development in the health and social care sector
• To motivate employees and apprentices within the sector to succeed.
Objectives:-
• To develop appropriate communication and record keeping skills when caring for individuals
• To be able to carry out work activities correctly and safely
• Know how to respond to accidents and emergencies
• Develop a commitment to respecting individual’s rights and choices
• Support individual’s care needs and choices
• Protect self, individuals and others from danger, harm and abuse
• Be able to identify own learning needs and address them.

This qualification aims to enable learners to progress to further learning opportunities when in employment in areas such as the NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care. The ASET Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care covers the knowledge specifications of the 4 core units (HSC21, HSC22, HSC23, and HSC 24) in the NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
This qualification also enables learners to progress to other related Level 3 qualifications in care or in health such as:
