ASET has agreed to comply with the assesment strategy for S/NVQs laid down by Skills for Care and Development via membership of the NVQ Joint Awarding Body group. Independent assessment is via external verification procedures documented in ‘ASET NVQ Centre Guidance 2005-2006’ which was banked with our QCA agreed part a submission to run NVQs. Centres will need to ensure robust quality assurance of assessment via internal verification procedures specified by ASET.
Some of the more common assessment methods suitable for this NVQ are:
•Direct observation of practice by a qualified assessor or by an expert witness, for occupational specific units
•Reflective accounts
•Witness testimony
•Questioning the learner or witness by an assessor
•Inference of knowledge by direct observation
•Professional discussion
•Case study
Methods used are as appropriate to the unit undertaken and are specified in the 'Unit specification for ASET Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care ' booklet (48 units). Examples have been submitted with the WBA supporting evidence document. Learners produce a portfolio of evidence.
There will be instances when a piece of evidence may prove a learner’s competence across several elements or criteria. It is strongly recommended that assessors and learners should identify activities that relate to more that one element so providing opportunities to use a single piece of evidence to satisfy several criteria. This form of planning will help reduce the burden of assessment and ensure that units are achieved in not too onerous a time scale.
In Social Care, candidates must take the four core units in Group A plus two units from Group B.
In Health, candidates must take two units from Group A plus 2 units from Group B and a further two units from either Group A or Group B.
