ASA Level 1 Certificate for Coaching

Qualification summary

The aim of the qualification is to introduce the learner to the coaching environment, equiping them with the generic skills of how to coach effectively.

Unit 1 in the Level 1 Certificate is a common unit to all of the aquatic strands (Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo), with a technical emphasis on movement literacy, as defined by Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). This unit is mandatory for all aquatic strands.

Unit 2 has a specific focus on coaching, the technical knowledge required to support this and the practical skills that will allow the coach to actively support a more senior qualified / licensed swimming coach at any level in the delivery of a pre-prepared coached session. Candidates will follow the route applicable to them from either swimming, water polo, diving or synchronised swimming.

The Certificate is also recognised as a United Kingdom Coaching Certificate (UKCC) Level 1 qualification
