NVQ - National Vocational Qualification
For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
This qualification allows the candidate to achieve craft status in this occupation. The 2 routes within the qualification give the candidate a future option of completing the other route if they cover the work on site to meet the necessary evidence requirements to achieve the route. They also have the option of completing any of the 'Additional Units' if they meet the requirements of the unit(s), in the course of their job role.
Currently there is no Level 3 route available for Land Drilling Operations. If the candidate desired to go on to a supervisory role in the future, the candidate could choose to undertake the Level 3 Occupational Work Supervision NVQ, if their scope of work allowed.
The Awarding Body uses a touch-screen process, operated by an independent contractor, to assess a mandatory Health and Safety unit within the NVQ qualification. The candidate does not get issued with their NVQ certificate until the test has been achieved. The principle of holistic assessment is postively encouraged by the Awarding Body.
