GQAL Level 4 Certificate in Dance Teaching
Qualification summary
This qualification has been developed as part of a suite designed to meet the need for continuing professional development in the dance teaching community and to provide a secure foundation of good practice in dance teaching both for new teachers, and for those working as assistant teachers of dance. The qualifications place a clear emphasis on the knowledge and understanding necessary for effective teaching in the context of dance and are formed around a common core of modules covering principles, practice and professional responsibilities. Experienced teachers of dance and those with Qualified Teacher Status are able to take advantage of accreditation of prior and experiential learning (APEL and APL) arrangements. This particular qualification is aimed ), aimed at those who teach in an unsupervised capacity, (minimum age 18 years and over and Grade 7 or equivalent from any recognised dance examination body).

It is envisaged that candidates will progress to the Diploma in Dance Teaching and then to vocationally related qualifications and Higher Education at comparable and higher levels than this award will be accessed through the GQAL structure in collaboration with the School of Education and Lifelong Learning, Exeter University.

Practical Examination
All examinations are performance based and are structured so that the duration of each examination provides opportunities for all learners to demonstrate achievement both through observed performance and in discussion with an external assessor. Learners may be assessed individually or as part of a group. Notional assessment duration for each learner is 90 minutes. Please see syllabus for further information.
