Qualification summary

This level 3 qualification covers the essential knowledge for roadside technicians.

It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following;
• Assessing and securing the roadside situation
• Carrying out roadside diagnostic and rectification activities
• Giving customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety when repairing vehicles at the roadside.

If employed in a suitable role, candidates can progress from this qualification to the IMIAL NVQ Level 3 in Roadside Assisstance or the IMI (Automotive Skills) Roadside Assisstance Advanced Apprenticeship (for which the NVQ Level 3 forms an integral component).

This qualification forms the technical certificate component of the IMI (Automotive Skills) Roadside Assistance Advanced Apprenticeship.

The IMI has adopted the assessment strategy as specified by Automotive Skills in full. Assessment is done in the form of on-line testing.
Qualification Accreditation Number 100-5578-2 provides pathways to the following qualifications:

IMI Level 3 Diploma in Roadside Assistance and Recovery (Recovery)
IMI Level 3 Diploma in Roadside Assistance and Recovery (Roadside Assistance)

Candidates must complete all units in the mandatory Group A and one optional unit from the Group B of their chosen pathway. Candidates pursuing the Recovery pathway must also complete one optional unit from Group C.
