Qualification summary

The aim of this NVQ is to provide a clear national benchmark for the performance of administration personnel. It offers individuals with the opportunity to develop, improve and gain recognition in business administration as it reflects the demands of current working practices and job roles.

The IMI offers this NVQ as part of its one–stop shop approach to qualifications. The qualification is flexible and transferable and can therefore be used by any sector, not just the motor industry.

The level 3 qualification is based upon the Council for Administration National Occupational Standards (2005) and forms an integral part of the CfA Business Administration Apprenticeship. It focuses on a business administration role which is required to have a good knowledge and understanding of organisational and time management skills in order to evaluate, plan and improve processes and practices.

Within the retail motor industry the qualification will help to retain qualified staff in non-technical disciplines. The motor industry includes are huge variety of disciplines and therefore endless opportunities and demand for staff. The industry needs calibre staff not only in the technical specialities, but also in sales, management, marketing, human resources, finance and administration. By providing Administration NVQs for non-technical staff, employers should benefit from improved staff performance and retention, productivity and quality assurance.

This NVQ is an integral part of the CfA Advanced Apprenticeship for those involved in Business and Administration. Therefore candidates (normally aged 16-25) who are keen to build a career in the industry can progress within the framework.

On achieving the Level 3 NVQ individuals could progress to further, and/or higher education for example;
- Level 4 Administration NVQ
- Management NVQs
- Gain credit for entry onto a Higher National Diploma or a degree, for example a Foundation degree.

The qualification can provide recognition of professional competence to aid an individuals step up from one job role to another, e.g. into supervisory and/or management roles.

The core units within this qualification focus on the candidate's major work activities. These core units support practical skills and are assessed in context with the optional units, therefore they encourage holistic assessment.
Candidates must complete all units from Group A plus four optional units, of which at least three must come from Group C.
