Qualification summary

IMI Awards automotive qualifications are designed to meet the needs of technicians in the automotive retail industry.

This qualification has been developed for a Test and Trial Project for the QCF. The trial's purpose is to combine the VRQ and NVQ for ease of delivery and integrated learning strategies. Therefore the trial has resulted in the development of this 'composite' qualification.

The assessments reflect the current assessment requirements of the SSC. However these requirements have been adapted to suit the purpose of this test and trial.
Learners must complete all 7 units in Group A (Mandatory units) and 1 unit from Group B (Optional Units).

Candidates must achieve a minimum of 78 credits to successfully complete the qualification.

    Mandatory units for the qualification
    Credit Value required: Minimum 68, Maximum 68.
    • M/501/3491 - Carry out routine vehicle maintenance
    • R/501/3483 - Contribute to workplace housekeeping
    • K/501/3490 - Maintain positive workplace relationships
    • F/501/3513 - Remove and replace chassis units & components
    • T/501/3511 - Remove and replace electrical auxiliary units & components
    • R/501/3502 - Remove and replace engine units & components
    • R/501/0874 - Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • B  -  Optional Units
    Optional Units - 1 unit must be achieved from this group.
    Credit Value required: Minimum 10, Maximum 13.
    • J/501/3514 - Conduct pre and post work inspections
    • R/501/3516 - Remove and replace vehicle transmission and driveline units and components
    • L/501/3515 - Valet Vehicles
