The ISTD is aware of the need for independent assessment to be incorporated within the design of a qualification, in order to avoid difficulties that can be caused by relying solely on internal assessment. The following model has been devised, therefore, with all the accompanying quality assurance controls in relation to the training of approved tutors and ISTD examiners, to ensure consistency and reliability. All units as completed in the candidate's portfolio are subject to moderation exercises.
Module 1
Teaching Skills
Units 1-3
Assessed internally by an ISTD-approved tutor at an ISTD approved dance centre. Tutor monitoring and moderation exercises carried out by the ISTD. Final assessment carried out externally by an ISTD appointed assessor.
Module 2
Contextual Studies
Units 4-5
Assessed externally by ISTD appointed examiners
Module 3
Dance Practice
Units 6-8
