Qualification summary

The ILM Level 5 Extended Diploma in Leadership and Management aims to give practising managers the widest choice for their formal development in this role. The qualification does this by developing a very wide range of basic middle management skills and assisting participants in gaining the comprehensive knowledge required at this level. The qualification also develops both understanding and application of leadership skills using action learning.

Candidates who successfully complete the ILM Level 5 Extended Diploma in Leadership and Management can progress to the ILM Level 6 Award in Management or the ILM Level 7 Qualifications in Strategic Leadership or Executive Management; or Strategic Leadership and Executive Management. Candidates can also progress to a Foundation Degree, where this is a relevant component.

Practical Demonstration / Assignment
Participants must meet all the mandatory assessment criteria, and the assessment criteria for the selected optional units in the qualification, if applicable. All mandatory assessment must also be successfully completed.
Participants must also successfully complete the minimum amount of credit specified for the qualification, including the minimum hours for induction and tutorial support, as specified in the Qualification Specifications.
Participants who have successfully completed units in this qualification which are also contained within other qualifications or which have been achieved in isolation as Certificates of Unit Credit will be granted exemptions for these units.

Candidates who are doing this qualification as a component of a Foundation Degree must complete 6 Mandatory Units (credit value of 105 - Groups M1 and M2) and any combination of optional units that bring the minimum total credit value up to 121.

  • M1 -  Mandatory Units for the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management (Foundation Degree Route)
    Candidates must also take the two units in mandatory group M2
    Credit Value required: Minimum 30, Maximum 30.

  • M2 -  Mandatory Units for the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management (Foundation Degree Route)
    These two units must be taken as well as the 4 mandatory units in M1.
    Credit Value required: Minimum 75, Maximum 75.
