The qualification provides a basic understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a trade union representative and relevant processes for negotiations and consultations between employers and employees. The qualification provides a progression route to other qualifications related to trade union studies as well as broader social science and business administration qualifications.
The integration of the workplace element is vital to the achievement of this qualification.
For the achievement of the NOCN Level 1 Award in Trade Unions Today (QCF), the learner must achieve 6 credits. A minimum of 6 credits must be achieved at Level 1. 6 credits must be achieved from the Optional Group A units at Level 1.
Providers should note that the 34 qualifications making up the Trade Union Education and Training unit framework have GLH identified within a common structure to ensure that learners receive adequate support for successful achievement. All Awards require a minimum of 50 GLH, Certificates require a minimum of 120 GLH, Diplomas require a minimum of 360 GLH.
The GLH identified on individual units reflect the notional learning time values because of the integrated work place related nature of Trade Union education. Therefore, the GLH values on units will not combine to produce the GLH values for the whole qualifications as described above.
