Qualification summary
The qualification has been designed to enable learners to develop skills in technical drawing and graphic representation skills to support the garden design process. The qualification could be used in conjunction with other garden design qualifications for those new to the industry.
The qualification supports the aspiration to develop creative talent within society in order to improve economic success. The specific aims of the NOCN Level 2 Award in Drawing and Graphics for Garden Design are to:
Develop basic drawing skills to support the production of garden and planting plans.
Develop basic graphic representation skills to produce 3-dimensional models for garden design.
Develop an understanding of the industry standards with regard to presentation of design materials.
The qualification has been designed in conjunction with the garden design specialists at Capel Manor College and is supported by Lantra, the SSC for the Landbased sector.

The NOCN Level 2 Award in Drawing and Graphics for Garden Design has been designed to be accessible to young people and adult learners wishing to explore and develop their technical drawing and graphic reprensentation skills.
The qualification can be used to develop specific technical drawing skills for learners undertaking other garden design qualifications. It also supports learners new to the design process and could be undertaken in conjunction with other NOCN Level 2 Garden Design qualifications.
NOCN qualifications are designed to encourage and facilitate widening participation. The qualification helps to develop a social, cultural and environmental awareness of the place of garden design within society.

Portfolio of Evidence
Achievement of the units is through internally set, internally assessed and externally verified assessment activity. Centres devise assessment tasks to meet the specification for assessment detailed for each unit. The activity must meet the standards detailed in the assessment grid provided on each unit. If an assessment method is prescribed it must be used to assess the unit.
Centre devised assessments will be scrutinised by the quality reviewer against the unit specification and NOCN Assessment Definitions grid to ensure reliability and validity of assessment. Centres will be required to provide samples for local and national standardisation activity.
Each task must be assessed against the identified assessment criteria in the unit and judged to be either achieved or not achieved.
To achieve the qualification the learner must achieve all the assessment components for the units. No compensation across units is allowed.
The learner can achieve the qualification on completion of 2 mandatory units.
