Multiple Choice Examination
Practical Demonstration / Assignment
This Unit is internally assessed using externally set assessment tasks and externally verified on a sample basis. There are two assessments – one covering knowledge and one covering skills. The knowledge assessment consists of 25 multiple choice questions to assess students’ knowledge of Internet safety (such as the meaning of words or how to avoid certain threats); the practical assessment involves maintaining a diary (or a blog) to describe student activities and demonstrate how they protected themselves.

An integrative approach has been taken with the four outcomes being assessed through two instruments of assessment. The first assessment covers Outcomes 1, 2 and 3, and the second assessment relates to Outcome 4.

Performance and written/oral evidence is required to demonstrate that the candidate has achieved all of the Outcomes and Assessment Criteria for the Units. Evidence is produced in response to a clear candidate brief. Centres who wish to design their own assessments should refer to the CDROM/Assessment Support Pack to ensure a comparable standard. There is also guidance for candidates with disabilities or additional support needs.
Candidates must complete all four outcomes of the single mandatory unit to achieve the qualification.
