Learning Outcome Assessment Criteria
1 be able to identify and demonstrate the features of effective communication between individuals and groups a compare and investigate the use of different communication media, and how they are used by organisations:
i analysing and evaluating different communication media, judging their relevance and value in different business contexts
ii identifying good and bad practice
iii comparing the benefits and drawbacks
b describe and use the features of effective communication between individuals and groups
c describe the importance of active listening in effective communication
d understand the role and importance of effective communication in business
e reflect upon the effectiveness of their own behaviour and personal style to suit different roles and situations and adapt them accordingly
f reflect on how communication media could be utilised differently in the future.
2 understand the need to plan and use different media for interpersonal and team communication in different situations a use formal English correctly, both written and verbal, distinguishing where the use of formal and less formal English are appropriate in business situations such as:
i meetings (both formal ones such as project reviews or team meetings as well as informal meetings such as impromptu discussions of a work issue between two colleagues over coffee)
ii short reports
iii e-mails and instant messaging
iv telephone calls and teleconferences
v presentations.
3 know how to use confident, correct and contextually appropriate English in a business environment a demonstrate understanding of how the principles of effective communication can be applied to the selection and use of digital communications media
b plan and use of a range of media and personal styles in their own communication with individuals and teams in different business contexts
c review the use of communication methods and content to improve the effectiveness of their communication.
4 be able to explore and reflect on the consequences of different behaviours, attitudes and actions in the business environment within a team working context. a recognise the factors that contribute to successful team work including individuals’ different behaviours in active listening, participation, leadership, negotiation and handling conflict, and the effects of these behaviours on team success
b work confidently with others, adapting to different contexts and taking responsibility for their own part, including:
i collaborating with others to work towards common goals
ii providing constructive support and feedback to others
iii responding constructively to feedback received from others about performance and behaviour.
