Animal management and care: Nutrition, growth, breeding and handling
Unit summary
Learners will develop a basic understanding of contributory factors effecting animal behaviour. These are important in order to handle different species safely and correctly and in line with current legislative guidelines and codes of practice, and to ensure the general health and wellbeing of animals. Learners will develop practical skills in approaching, handling and moving a range of species safely using correct restraint and handling techniques and equipment. They will be able to correctly identify and describe the visual signs of health and ill health and the factors that may influence them. These will be essential skills that can be further developed should the learner wish to pursue a career in this area or use them as a basis for further educational opportunities.
