Unit summary
The term ‘hard landscaping’ includes things like fencing and paving.
Fencing and paving are an important part of the structure of a garden and come in lots of different shapes and sizes. Fencing can be used as a barrier to give privacy, keep animals in or out of the garden and mark a boundary. Hard surfaces like concrete and paving can be used for paths, patios and driveways.
This unit looks at some areas of ‘hard landscaping’, mainly fencing and paving.
You will learn how to look after a fence by cleaning, preparing and applying a preservative. You will need to be able to recognise three types of fencing and to name three types of hard surface. You will learn how to prepare an area for paving, safely remove the debris and about levelling and laying suitable foundations. You will also learn how to lift and lay paving correctly and safely so that you do not injure yourself or damage the paving.
