Moving farm supplies

Unit summary

There are three main types of farm, arable, where they grow crops;
livestock where they only have animals and mixed where they have
animals and grow crops. All types of farms need supplies delivered to
the farm to keep them operational (working), i.e. bags of seed, fertiliser, medicines, chemicals and machinery parts. Some farmers
also produce goods which need storing before they are sold or used,
i.e. bags of potatoes, bales of hay or straw. These supplies and goods need to be moved in and out of stores and taken to where they are needed. If you want to work on any type of farm, this unit is extremely important. It will show you how to load, unload and transport these supplies correctly and safely.

This unit looks at moving supplies carefully and safely around the work area. You will learn how to move supplies of different shapes, sizes and weights safely so there is less risk of you injuring yourself.
You will not be expected to move weights that are too heavy for you.

You will learn how to transport supplies and goods safely for example in a wheelbarrow, on a trolley or by carrying them short distances.

You will need to understand how important it is that these supplies are handled, moved and stacked carefully and safely so they are not damaged or wasted and you and others are not injured.
