Unit summary

An important part of working in a florists shop is caring for the flowers themselves. It is important to make sure that the flowers and any other products always look their best in order to make them attractive to the customer and profitable in the shop.

This unit looks at caring for flowers in a shop situation. You will learn how to present flowers for sale. This includes making sure that the flowers are in good condition, they are well presented and in a tidy area.

You will learn how to use scissors, knives and other equipment in order to do this safely. You will learn about the feeding and watering of cut flowers, as well as general care and maintenance.

You will be able to recognise the different types of flowers, and also know the requirements of each type. You will also need to be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of shop presentation techniques.

You will learn the importance of health and safety, especially when lifting heavy buckets of water.
