Caring for Children and Young People (protection and wellbeing)
Unit summary
In this unit the learner will research the needs of children and young people, including those with mental health needs, in a health and social care setting. He/she will explore issues surrounding diversity, differences in preferences and choice and will recognise the need to protect the individual from potential harm or abuse whilst maintaining the individual’s independence and respect.
The learner will consider the legislation that underpins equality, diversity, discrimination, prejudice and protection from abuse.
Understanding how you can prevent discrimination and prejudice of children and young people in a health and social care setting is key and the learner will gain insight as to how he/she can promote an individual’s physical, mental and psychological wellbeing.
The learner examines how to respond correctly to occurrences which require some form of investigation including assessing what evidence is required and how this may be contaminated by poor practice.
