Unit summary
This unit requires that candidates demonstrate the skills that all accounting technicians need to operate effectively as a member of an accounting team, or as the accounting member of a borader team, within an organisation.
This unit involves developing those generic skills that are essential to employees performing an accounting function. It requires learners to prioritise, plan and organise work tasks while emphasising the candidate's own training and development needs which wil result in improved performance. It involves the learner in working effectively with other staff, both within and outside an accounting team, and monitoring the work environment to ensure that it remains safe and effective.

Centrally set skills test of a minimum of 3 hours taken under high control conditions
You must have knowledge and understanding of the following:

1. Awareness of employee responsibilities in complying with general legal requirements regarding equal opportunities and the holding of data on computers
The Organisation
2. Understanding of the organisation's business transactions, accounting systems and procedures including the input, holding, protection and transmission of data through the use of computers
3. The organisation's requirements and procedures for protecting against risk, avoiding viruses and maintaining confidentiality where necessary
4. The need for, and awareness of, health, safety and security provisions which apply to organisations
5. Awareness of, and appropriate actions to deal with, hazards within organisations
6. Planning the work environment to allow maximum effectiveness and efficiency in the performance of duties
7. Prioritising and planning duties to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency
8. Team working and procedures to deal with conflict
Based on AOSG Level 2 in Accounting, Units 22 and 23
FSSC has had sight of draft materials and provided helpful comment on these. A formal request for support from FSSC has been made.
