Child Development and Dance Learning
Unit summary
To promote an understanding of the many developmental physical and mental factors which need to be considered when teaching dance to young learners of all abilities. The study aims to give an overview of the developmental ‘milestones’ of children and young adults and how these impact on approaches to teaching and learning. It demonstrates how to take account of learners preferred learning styles and how to meet individual needs in the learning situation. The study also aims to make student aware of issues around abnormal development and disability both in terms of legislation and in terms of the adaptation of teaching methods to meet special learning needs.
