Knowledge and Understanding of the Legislation for the Welfare and Safe Transport of Equines
Unit summary
Compulsory legal requirement. Requires candidate to demonstrate ability, skills and competence to prepare the horse for transport, to load and unload with regard to equine welfare and safety, and to manage the horse's welfare, safety and comfort needs during the process of transport. Candidate will need prior knowledge and learning of safe horse handling techniques; knowledge of how to prepare a horse for transport; how to recognised and address signs of illness, injury and stress prior to and during transport; how to provide for the welfare, safety and comfort of the horse during transport; how to select from a range of equipment; how to prepare the horse transport vehicle for the journey; the skill and competence to load/unload a horse in/from the horse transport vehicle with regard to the welfare and safety of the horse.
