Understanding Communication with Deafblind People
Unit summary
By the end of this unit the learner will be able to: describe the incidence, types and causes of deafblindness; explain the principles of communication with people with a dual sensory loss; describe how deafblindness impacts on the mobility, movement and orientation of the individual and how this in turn impacts on communication; recognise the uniqueness of the experience of the deafblind person and the importance of opportunities to socialise; explain the legal rights of deafblind people in society with reference to current legislation; describe how technology can be used to provide deafblind people with language and communication support.
