Unit summary
By the end of this unit the learner will be able to: know the terms which are often used to describe deafness and deafblindness, deaf and deafblind people and why these may be inappropriately used; know about the uniqueness of deafblindness; know the numbers and types of deaf and deafblind people in the UK; know the factors which affect the deaf or deafblind person’s choice of language and communication; know how the society in which deaf and deafblind people live, can affect their access to communication: how difficulties can be avoided; know the names of the main national organisations that work with deaf and deafblind people and something about their work.
