EDEXCEL Entry Level BTEC Certificate in Skills for Working Life (Entry 2 and 3)
Qualification summary
The Edexcel Entry Level BTEC Certificates are appropriate for a diverse range of learners and support the widening participation and inclusive learning agenda. They are, therefore, suitable for a wide range of learners such as:
- those seeking to develop greater independence
- those with specific learning disabilities
- adult returning to study
- 14-19 year old learners who require a vocational curriculum
- disaffected learners
- those who have not yet achieved formal qualifications
- those working towards adult literacy and numeracy qualifications in a vocational or life skills context
These qualifications give learners the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding of a range of skills giving learner a vocational experience of the world of work. They are designed as an introduction to the workplaceand will enable progression to other qualifications, which can confirm work-based competence. In addition, they provide a platform for the delivery and assessment of key and basic skills.
Learners also have the opportunity to practice and develop the life skills needed to participate fully as members of their communities. and as citizens in the wider community.

These qualifications are designed to enable vertical and lateral progression. Vertically the learner could be expected to progress through the entry sub-levels and then to a level 1 qualification. Where learners have reached their full potential at say Entry 2, then these learners would benefit from a lateral progression through other pathways.

Practical Examination
BTEC Entry qualifications have the following assessment features:
- Compulsory core units using BTEC set assignments that are externally verified
- All other units are internally assessed, using centre-devised assignments, and verified by
BTEC.
To achieve the qualification the learner must successfully complete six units.
Each pathway consists of:
- a compulsory unit, Health and Safety
- two units from a core of eight. These units must be delivered in the context of the pathway being studied
- three specialist units from the chosen pathway or two specialist units from the chosen pathway and one option unit.
Each unit comprises 30 guided learning hours.
All units are at two Entry Levels of Entry 2 and Entry 3 except for Performing Arts — Performing Work, which is available at Entry 3 ONLY.
