The aim of the qualification is to provide the knowledge and skills required within the hairdressing sector. The qualification provides an educational foundation for a range of careers, specialised studies directly relevant to individual vocations and professions and prior knowledge and understanding relevant to national occupational standards.

The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Hairdressing permits the achievement of learner to progress:
• to an NVQ in a related sector
• to a Level 3 Diploma (e.g. Hair and Beauty Studies)
• to higher level qualifications such as Foundation Degrees, BTEC HNDs/HNCs or Honours Degree programmes in related sectors
• to the workplace in a suitable technical role.

Portfolio of Evidence
The qualification is assessed through internally set assignments and externally verified through National Standard Sampling. In addition centres go through an ongoing Centre Risk Assessment process to ensure the quality of provision and internal verification systems and practices.
Candidates must complete all units in Group A, plus five units from Group B.
