BHS Level 3 Certificate in Stage 3 Horse Knowledge, Care and Riding

Qualification summary

This qualification will provide the holder with the competencies and ability to look after up to 4 horses in stables and at grass in an unsupervised environment, ensuring that horses, stables, yard and fields are safe and in good order. The holder will be able to ride a variety of horses in a variety of circumstances. They will be able to begin to school horses and ride them according to their needs. The holder will be able to ride tactfully yet effectively and understand the reasons for their actions both in horse care and while riding.

This qualification allows the candidate progression from EQL Level 2 Certificate in Horse Knowledge, Care and Riding to EQL Level 5 Horse Knowledge Care and Riding. This qualification is also a component of EQL Level 3 Assistant Instructor (Equine Coach). The Level 3 care unit of this qualification is recognised as a qualification in its own right and is a technical certificate for the Advanced Equine Apprenticeship and an ASL for the Environment and Land Based Diploma.

Practical Examination
This qualification is independently assessed by a team of up to 4 assessors including a chief assessor who is responsible for overseeing the assessment and quality assurance processes. Candidates will be assessed individually or in small groups. However, the emphasis is on one to one assessment.
