NVQ - National Vocational Qualification
For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
This qualification features multiple options routes. The bulk of candidates are likely to select just one route, as this reflects their typical day to day skills. However, if their work skills broaden out over time, they may be able to achieve other associated routes, for example, door system installers may wish to do the door repair route or vice versa or any candidate could undertake any of the 'Additional Units' if their work allows.
Those candidates undertaking the Joint Sealant Application route have the option of progressing to Level 3 on completion of their Level 2.
The other 6 routes do not currently offer a Level 3 route. Alternatively if a candidate wanted to progress they could opt to undertake Construction Site Supervision at Level 3, if their work allowed.
The Awarding Body (AB) uses a Computer based touch-screen process, operated by an independent contractor, to assess a mandatory Health and Safety unit within the NVQ qualification. The candidate does not get issued with their NVQ certificate until this test has been achieved. The principle of holistic assessment is positively encouraged by the AB.
Independence is achieved through the Quality Assurance (Verification) system. The principle of holistic assessment is positively encouraged.
Candidates must complete all three Mandatory Core Units in Group A, plus one of the Optional Routes from Groups B, C, E, F, G, I or J.
