CoPE provides opportunities for progression to wider key skills. It also uses the national Wider Key Skills unit specifications as part of the basis for assessment alongside other criteria. Candidates are expected to provide evidence of demonstrating performance at the appropriate level, providing a minimum of one example for each of the wider key skills. This achievement is assessed and externally moderated by teachers. Progression is therefore possible, and encouraged, towards achievement of full wider key skills certification, quality assured to QCA requirements, as determined following the key skills review. The ASDAN CoPE, through the curriculum content, but in particular the development of generic personal, learning and thinking skills, also provides the opportunity to generate evidence for, and therefore progression to, other qualifications such as the Key Skills of Communication and Information Technology, the Certificate in Career Planning, and can contribute to Diploma development at different levels. The generic skills facilitate lifelong learning, are transferable and support access to, and success in, HE and employment.
