EDEXCEL Level 2 BTEC Certificate in 3D Design
Qualification summary
BTEC Short Courses are designed to meet a range of different needs. BTEC Short Courses at Levels 1-3 offer:
• maximum flexibility with programmes of usually 120, 240 or 300 hours available across all
levels of the NQF
• the opportunity to certificate smaller blocks of learning, which are designed to motivate
learners and encourage widening participation in education and training
• courses that relate to the particular training and employment patterns in a sector
• courses that may offer preparation for specific jobs and subsequent achievement of NVQs
or Apprenticeships when in employment
• the opportunity to use a range of delivery methods
• opportunities for learners to develop skills that support career and professional development
• underpinning knowledge, skills and understanding linked, where appropriate, to named
NVQs
• programmes that can enable progression either to higher levels of study or to other courses
at the same level of study.

The Level 2 BTEC Award, Certificate and Diploma in 3D Design have been developed to focus
on:
• education and training for people who may become employed in a variety of design-based
work
• providing opportunities for people to achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 vocationally
specific qualification
• providing opportunities for full-time learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally
specific qualification to enable them to enter employment or progress to higher education
vocational qualifications such as the specialist BTEC National Diplomas in Art and Design
or an Applied GCE in Art and Design
• developing the knowledge, understanding and skills of learners from a design practitioner’s
viewpoint
• providing opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major and wider key
skills in a design context, such as improving own learning and performance, working with
others and problem solving
• providing opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal
qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.

The qualification is 100% internally assessed. Centre grading decisions are externally verified through the National Standards Sampling process.
Overall assessment of the qualification is Pass only.
The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Certificate in 3D Design is a 240-hour qualification comprising four units of 60 hours each.
To achieve the whole qualification, a learner must successfully complete four units.
