VRQ - Vocationally-Related Qualification
For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
The qualification is directly linked to employment as it is a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to work as a Security Officer to obtain a Level 2 licence-to-practice qualification, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001.
In addition, the qualification provides a significant amount of knowledge, understanding and skills development that underpins occupational competence in the Security Guarding sector, as identified in the current accredited suite of National Occupational Standards for the sector, Security and Loss Prevention (SLP). The NOS include a pathway specifically for Security Officers, with units identified that are directly relevant to the Security Officer’s role.
The only assessment method for this qualification is an externally set, externally marked multiple choice examination.
The NOCN Level 2 Award in Security Guarding is composed of a total of two mandatory units.
The qualification provides pathways to the following qualifications:
NOCN Level 2 Award in Security Guarding (Static and Patrol)
NOCN Level 2 Award in Security Guarding (Retail)
