The BTEC Introductory Certificate and Diploma in Engineering are designed to widen participation and improve retention and attainment at Level 1. They are an important step on the framework of the BTEC VRQs offering a broad introduction to the sectors and developing personal skills and attributes that learners need in order to develop in their ability to work, learn and achieve their full potential at Level 1.

The BTEC Introductory Certificate and Diploma in Engineering are designed to develop learners’ ability in these sectors through effective use and combination of the knowledge and skills gained in different parts of the qualifications. They provide specialised studies directly relevant to engineering and related sectors in which students are working or intend to seek employment. Students will develop a range of employability skills and techniques, understanding, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in working life.

These qualifications provide a foundation of study from which students may move onto a Level 2 qualification such as the BTEC Firsts in Engineering.
