For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
The qualification contains a balance of practical skill development and knowledge requirements. The units are designed to meet the skill needs of the sector and the specialist units allow coverage of the full range of employment. The knowledge requirements for the units provide the underpinning knowledge for the National Occupational Standards for Management and Leadership, and therefore provide progression opportunities to NVQs in Management, and also to the Edexcel level 7 BTEC Advanced Professional Award Certificate and Diploma in Management Studies
The quality assurance system for BTEC Professional qualifications, as higher-level vocational qualifications at Level 4 to 8 on the NQF, will comprise three main components:
• approval process — a control measure to confirm that individual centres (and programme teams) are appropriately resourced and competent to deliver a BTEC Level 4 to 8 programme of study
• monitoring of centres — a method of monitoring centres’ internal quality systems to ensure ongoing fulfilment of initial requirements and, where appropriate, enhancement of those requirements to accommodate new qualifications
• independent assessment — a measure that provides independence within the assessment process, so that the certificated outcomes for each learner are not reliant on determinations by individuals or groups with a vested interest in the outcome. This measure should be consistent and reliable over time, and should not create unnecessary barriers.
Individual units and the whole qualification are only graded pass/not a pass.
Candidates must complete all units from Group A plus six units from Group B
