Qualification summary

The aim of the Edexcel Level 4 NVQ for Managers in Residential Childcare is to underpin and encourage the raising of standards in the management of residential childcare by enabling candidates to develop competence, knowledge and understanding in order to operate effectively and to enable progression in employment or through further qualifications. Such candidates could be working, or aspiring to work, as managers in residential child care, either in the local authority sector, or the private or voluntary sectors.

Candidates studying for the Edexcel Level 4 NVQ for Managers in Residential Child Care should be working or aspiring to work as managers of residential child care settings. This NVQ reflects the requirements placed on managers by regulations and workforce development strategies. The National Care Standards Commission has recognised achievement of this qualification as fulfilling part of the requirements to gain approved registered manager status for this group of managers, the other requirement being a recognised care award such as the Level 3 or 4 NVQ in Care.
Candidates will be able to progress into the qualification from Level 3 or 4 NVQs - for example in Health and Social Care. On completion of the award, candidates could progress on to the Level 4 or 5 NVQ in Health and Social Care, or related NVQs – such as Management, or into Higher Education
