NVQ - National Vocational Qualification
For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
Candidates can progress through the Edexcel Level 1, 2 and 3 NVQs in IT Practitioners and Professionals. Candidates can also develop further in related sectors such as Contact Centres and Communication Technologies because of the fundamental relationships built into the Standards and structures.
Candidates can progress into BTEC VRQ qualifications from levels 1-5. Some examples of appropriate qualifications include:
- Edexcel Level 1 BTEC Introductory Cert/Dip in IT
- Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First for ICT Practitioners,
- Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Nationals for ICT Practitioners
- Edexcel Level 5 BTEC Higher Nationals in Computing and IT
The qualification is internally assessed and verified and externally verified according to the NVQ Code of Practice.
The units are available at three levels but it is possible that you could mix units from different levels in any one qualification.
Each unit is assigned a value according to its level and size and to achieve a full NVQ candidates must achieve a minimum total of Unit Values.
Candidates must complete 180 Unit Values to achieve a Level 3 qualification
