Qualification summary

The broad objectives of the Edexcel Level 1-2 NVQ for IT Practitioners and Level 3 for IT Professionals are to:
• provide a flexible framework of qualifications, for a wide range of candidates
• enable candidates to either equip themselves with Specialist IT skills or upgrade their IT skills, recognising differing levels of ability and skills within each qualification
• provide recognition of this achievement through a National Qualification that provides them with access to and progression in the workplace and to other educational opportunities
• provide employers and candidates with an opportunity to personalise these qualifications to meet their business and individual needs
• offer flexible approaches to work-based assessment that meet the needs of employers and candidates alike.

Candidates can progress through the Edexcel Level 1, 2 and 3 NVQs in IT Practitioners and Professionals. Candidates can also develop further in related sectors such as Contact Centres and Communication Technologies because of the fundamental relationships built into the Standards and structures.

Candidates can progress into BTEC VRQ qualifications from levels 1-5. Some examples of appropriate qualifications include:
- Edexcel Level 1 BTEC Introductory Cert/Dip in IT
- Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First for ICT Practitioners,
- Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Nationals for ICT Practitioners
- Edexcel Level 5 BTEC Higher Nationals in Computing and IT

The qualification is internally assessed and verified and externally verified according to the NVQ Code of Practice.
The units are available at three levels but it is possible that you could mix units from different levels in any one qualification.

Each unit is assigned a value according to its level and size and to achieve a full NVQ candidates must achieve a minimum total of Unit Values.
