OU Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care

Qualification summary

The OUAB aims to meet the established requirement for vocational qualifications in Health and Social Care with a focus on linking NVQs to Open University academic programmes.

The OUAB has continued to work with UNISON, the public service union, a large proportion of whose members in health and social care have no formal qualifications and therefore face barriers to promotion and increased remuneration. NVQs in health and social care are a part of meeting this need for qualifications.

There is a clear progression route within the NVQ framework, and the Open University already recognises achievement at NVQ 4 as 60 points at HE level 2 towards its academic programmes in health and social care.

The Open University has also rewritten its HE level 1 module as part of an integrated award with NVQ 3.
