OCR does not prescribe one assessment method for this award, but supports the use of a range of methods which take account of the competence being assessed, the context in which it is being assessed, and the particular needs of the individual being assessed. The methods of assessment identified as suitable for this award have been recognised for many years as valid and reliable in relation to assessment of competence and/or knowledge. By allowing assessors to choose the assessment method, OCR is encouraging the use of assessment methods which are manageable, safe and appropriate to the needs of learners.
OCR external verifiers will verify across all methods of assessment to ensure that the methods used are valid, reliable, safe and appropriate to the needs of the candidates. The qualification will be subject to internal assessment and verification and external quality control through external verification.
OCR adopts a risk assessment approach to identify and evaluate likely risks to assessment decisions and recommends that ideally, assessors have not been involved with the training of candidates. The requirements for assessors and internal verifiers will be made available to centres in the relevant scheme documentation and will be in line with the requirements set out in the agreed assessment strategy. A full description of OCR’s requirements for approved centre staffing and operations are contained in the Administrative Guide to Verified Qualifications.
