Qualification summary

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Media has been developed:
• to give learners the opportunity to gain a basic understanding of employment opportunities, job requirements, and working practices in the media industry
• to enable learners to start building the technical skills and knowledge relevant to a sector (or sectors) of the media industry
• to provide a qualification which will enable progression to further study, training, or employment
• to enable learners to make informed choices with regard to a career in the media industry
to develop media technology skills that may be applicable in other work situations.

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Media permits the achievement of learner to progress:
• to NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a related sector
• to a Level 2 or 3 Diploma (Creative and Media)
• to a specialist qualification (such as the Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Media Production)
• to the workplace in a suitable role under supervision

Portfolio of Evidence
The qualification is assessed through internally set assignments and externally verified through National Standard Sampling. In addition centres go through an ongoing Centre Risk Assessment process to ensure the quality of provision and internal verification systems and practices.
Learners must complete one mandatory unit from Group A plus two optional units from Group B.
