This qualification offers a range of study topics that are considered appropriate by industry for inclusion in a preparatory qualification, with recommendations for delivery, assessment, and resources. The qualifications highlight and emphasise what employers want from prospective recruits and are as practical and hands-on as possible, therefore making them relevant to industry and attractive to potential learners. There are ten pathways to follow that are appropriate to different job roles within the media and print industries. This qualification is suitable for pre and new entrants to the media industries and for those already employed within the industry wishing to broaden their knowledge and skills.

This qualification is a part of a suite of qualifications, both VRQs and NVQs, ranging from level 2 through to level 4. Progression directly into employment within the media industries is also available to candidates upon completion of this qualification.

Practical Demonstration / Assignment
Each individual unit is assessed by a City & Guilds set assignment covering both the practical skills and underpinning knowledge. Assignments are centre-marked using provided marking and grading criteria, and externally verified.
Learners must complete all units from Group A plus a chosen pathway from Group B. Learners must complete 1-2 mandatory units plus 2-3 optional units from within chosen pathway (rules apply). The complete breakdown follows:

6 units (three mandatory units 301, 302, 303 and any three optional units from 307, 309, 311, 313, 314, 315, 327, 328, 329, 330, 331, 332)
