EDEXCEL Level 2 BTEC First Certificate for ICT Practitioners

Qualification summary

The BTEC Firsts for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Practitioners have
been developed in the IT sector to focus on:
• education and training for employees working in ICT related occupations
• providing opportunities for employees working in ICT to achieve a nationally recognised
Level 2 vocationally specific qualification
• providing opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific
qualification to enter employment in the IT sector or to progress to higher education
vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National for IT Practitioners
• providing opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal
qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.

The EDEXCEL Level 2 BTEC First Certificate for ICT Practitioners permits the achievement of learner to progress:
• to NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a related sector
• to a Level 2 or 3 Diploma (Information Technology)
• to a specialist qualification (such as the Level 3 BTEC National Certificate for IT Practitioners – IT and Business)
• to the workplace in a suitable role under supervision.

Portfolio of Evidence
The qualification is assessed through internally set assignments and externally verified through National Standard Sampling. In addition centres go through an ongoing Centre Risk Assessment process to ensure the quality of provision and internal verification systems and practices.
Learners must complete one mandatory unit from Group A plus sufficient units from the unit bank (Group B) to make up to 180 GLH. Rules of combinations apply.
