Qualification summary

This level 2 Certificate, which is based on the knowledge requirements of the National Occupational Standards for Health and Social Care, provides those working or aspiring to work in the health and social care sectors with an opportunity to gain recognition for building the knowledge, skills and understanding which underpin this work. It is intended to support and enhance the occupational competence of individuals, either as a stand alone qualification or as an underpinning qualification to support the N/SVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care.

This qualification is suitable for those considering a career in care work or those already in care employment or those wishing to undertake nurse training.

Individuals who achieve the Level 2 Certificate are likely to progress to a related Level 2 NVQ, such as:
-L2 NVQ in Health and Social Care
-L2 NVQ in Health
-L2 NVQ in Youth Work

or to the Level 3 Certificate/L3 NVQ in Health and Social Care.

Practical Demonstration / Assignment
Assessment for the qualification is by externally set, internally marked and verified assignments according to detailed marking criteria published by City & Guilds together with comprehensive guidance issued to all those involved in the assessment process. Candidate assignment guidance accompanies each assignment. Assignments are pass/fail with normally only two attempts allowed per assignment. Candidates will be required to pass one assignment per unit selected in order to be eligible to receive a Certificate of Unit Credit. A full certificate will be issued when all assignments have been passed.

Independence of assessment is provided via the City & Guilds QED external and internal verification requirements for the internally marked, externally verified assessments
Learners must complete all units to gain the full qualification.
