VRQ - Vocationally-Related Qualification
For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
Those completing level 3 will have a qualification which supports the knowledge required for posts such as senior care worker or team leader in a residential care home, support/assistant social worker roles and particular roles in domiciliary care networks. Individuals achieving this Certificate may progress to to a level 3 NVQ or to level 4 NVQ (dependent on access to an appropriate work setting and job role) or into a graduate apprenticeship, foundation degree or other awards offered by higher education institutions (such as honours degree or other related qualifications) in health and social care and development or allied sectors.
Assessment for this qualification is by externally set, internally marked and verified assignments according to detailed marking criteria published by City & Guilds together with comprehensive guidance issued to all those involved in the assessment process. Candidate assignment guidance accompanies each assignment. Assignments are pass/fail with normally only two attempts allowed per assignment. Candidates will be required to pass one assignment per unit selected in order to be eligible to receive a Certificate of Unit Credit. A full certificate will be issued when all assignments have been passed.
Independence of assessment is provided via the City & Guilds QED external and internal verification requirements for the internally marked, externally verified assessments.
Qualification Accreditation Number 100/5919/2 provides pathways to the following qualifications:
City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care (Adults)
City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People)
Learners must complete all units from Group A plus one unit from Group B depending on pathway chosen.
