EDEXCEL Level 3 BTEC Certificate in Health and Social Care
Qualification summary
The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Certificate in Health and Social Care is designed to
provide:
• education and training for those in the health or social care sectors with a
responsibility to provide health/social care to patients/service users
• opportunities for learners in the health or social care sectors to achieve a
nationally-recognised Level 3 vocationally-specific qualification
• opportunities for full-time learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally
specific qualification to enter employment in the field of health or social care or
to progress to further vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 4 NVQ in Health
and Social Care
• the knowledge, understanding and skills learners need to progress within the
sectors
• opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major key skills and
the wider key skills, such as improving own learning and performance, problem
solving and working with others, in a health or social care context
• opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal
qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

The qualification provides opportunities for progression into NVQ programmes at level 4 in Health and Social Care or Management by providing a basis of underpinning knowledge. Additionally candidates can progress onto Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Nationals in Health Studies or Care as this qualification includes units shared with the nationals.

Portfolio of Evidence
Practical Demonstration / Assignment
The qualification can be internally assessed via Portfolio of Evidence or Practical Demonstration/Assignment and quality assured using National Standards Sampling. In this case the qualification will be internally assessed and externally verified.
In addtion, it will be possible to holistically assess the Adult Pathway (candidates taking Unit 1-3 and Unit 5) through one multiple-choice (computer-based) test set and marked by Edexcel.
Candidates must complete all three mandatory units, plus one optional unit.
