Qualification summary

This qualification will introduce learners within colleges, schools and the work place to the basic principles of health and safety including hazard awareness and risk assessment.

Its aims are:
1. To understand the importance of health and safety good practice
2. To improve knowledge and understanding of safety issues within a work area, home or learning environment
3. To introduce the learner to basic hazard awareness
4. To introduce the learner to basic risk assessment
5. To give the learner the opportunity to apply their knowledge to a relevant practical context

Portfolio of Evidence
The unit of this qualification is assessed through the learner putting together a portfolio of evidence. This is assessed by the assessor. Internal moderation is then carried out in the centre, across tutors and different groups of learners. An Ascentis external moderator then confirms the assessment decisions and that internal moderation has been carried out.
